Artist-in-Residency Program
Carroll Hall opens its doors to select artists throughout the year. We invite you to apply for this unique opportunity and use Carroll Hall as your personal studio space to expand your creativity. We welcome visual artists, performance artists, musicians, dancers, filmmakers, writers and more into our program. Past residencies included a mosaic artist, a movement-based performance company, a painter and printmaker, and a music composer.
Discovery, wonder, and the unexpected are big themes at Carroll Hall. We encourage you to use our unique indoor and outdoor space and our tranquil environment to explore your creativity during your residency at Carroll Hall.

Program Offerings
The 2023 Carroll Hall Resident Artist Program will run from March through the end of September. We will offer two and four-week residences on a per project basis during these seasonal sessions. Stay tuned for announcements about the winter 2023/2024 program.
Carroll Hall resident artists will be provided the following basic amenities:
Access to free, temporary, daytime work space at Carroll Hall; Monday-Friday, 9:30am-5:30pm.*
Indoor and outdoor accessibility:
approximately 1,088sq ft indoor warehouse space and 1,606sq ft outdoor courtyard space available

* Carroll Hall is open to the public on Wednesdays 11am-1pm.
Please note:
Carroll Hall is not a residential venue.
Confetti, glitter and similar substances are not permitted under any circumstances.
Precautions must be taken when using art materials (paints, pastels, etc.) and no permanent alterations of the space are allowed.
The artist program is self-directed.
Artists must provide their own supplies and tools. Limited storage is available.
There is no stipend or compensation offered as part of the Carroll Hall Artist Program.
Carroll Hall is a working events venue. There may be some interruptions during your residency (doorbell, site tours, in the instance of full day events we will try to offer an alternative day).
Participants must agree with and follow the Carroll Hall COVID policy.
Guests are not permitted without prior written approval from the director of operations.
Eligibility
This program supports emerging and established artists across disciplines for the development of new works or works in progress. Carroll Hall is dedicated to providing an inclusive environment for all artists regardless of age, gender identity, ethnicity, race, religion, or sexual orientation. 21 years of age and older. Must be a New York City-based artist.
Evaluation Criteria
Need for studio, rehearsal, performance space
Quality of portfolio work and samples
Assessment of artist-supplied materials to be used during your residency (i.e. paint, video cameras, etc.)
Ability to participate in a final performance, gallery show, or other showcase of your work as prepared during your time at Carroll Hall
Final Showcase
We strongly encourage every artist-in-residence to participate in a final showcase of their work. This is a chance to share your project from your residency at Carroll Hall with the public. Past artist showcases have included an outdoor gallery show, a two-night dance performance, and hands-on arts classes taught by the artist-in-residence at the end of their residency.
