Community
A space for community
Carroll Hall is committed to a sustainable and more harmonious future for all. Our core values include social justice and equality for all people in addition to respect and advocacy for nature. Carroll Hall frequently participates in local projects that align with our mission.
While Carroll Hall is a private space, we make it available to neighbors and community during our Carroll Hall-curated events. We invite members of the public to enjoy the garden by way of free, scheduled visits as well as ticketed events throughout the year.
Drag Story Hour NYC
“Drag Story Hour NYC produces storytelling and creative arts programs for children and teens, presented by local drag artists, in libraries, schools, and other community spaces in all five boroughs of New York City, and virtually. Through fun and fabulous educational experiences, their programs celebrate gender diversity and all forms of difference to build empathy and give kids the confidence to express themselves however they feel comfortable.”
Carroll Hall is a proud sponsor of the first annual 2023 Drag Story Hour NYC Benefit.
Museum of Broken Windows
“29 Million Dreams” is a pop-up art and performance exhibition that explores the dreams left unfulfilled by New York City’s reliance on policing to meet too many of our needs. Through creative expression, artists and visitors will imagine what we could otherwise do with the $29M per day our city spends on the NYPD in order to truly create the safe, connected, and thriving city we only dream of.
Presented by the Museum of Broken Windows, a project of the New York Civil Liberties Union and the Soze Agency, “29 Million Dreams,” is open April 28 through May 6, from noon to 8 p.m every day at 216 Lafayette Street.
Carroll Hall is a proud sponsor of this project coordinated by the New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU).
Brooklyn Community Services (BCS) believes all Brooklynites should have the resources, education, opportunities, and safety they need to thrive. They envision healthy and sustainable communities, where members are engaged as leaders, neighborhoods draw from their strengths and generations flourish together.
In January 2023, Carroll Hall organized an in-house winter clothing donation drive for our Brooklyn neighbors with all donations and proceeds directly to Brooklyn Community Services.
Kijana Library/Media Center
Kijana Educational Empowerment Initiative builds great schools in Kenya, advances educational development in partner schools in Kenya and develops unique educational cross-cultural connections with school communities and other community organizations in the United States.
The next major development at the school is an innovative, sustainable and creative library/media center and amphitheater at the school. The design has been developed over the last year and a half through collaborative discussions with Brooklyn based architects, Harpreet Dhaliwal and Christopher Dameron and Kijana team members, including western Kenyan architect, Jeremiah Awori.
Carroll Hall was the host venue for the library and media center fundraiser event in September 2022.
